When choosing a children's board, do you think what it will be used for? relaxing on the beach? Are you touring with you? Or catch a wave? How old are the children? Will you resell the board when they are older? Or does it have to last until adolescence? If your child enjoys SUPing or hanging out on the beach with friends, look for boards that are 8 to 10 feet long (depending on age) and 30 to 31 inches wide. When looking for a great 6" board, look for one with high density stitching and stay away from brands that promise military quality. It is fully manufactured and only used by brands that are misrepresenting the truth about their abilities and your board will bend with it! 🙂
Kids-specific stand-up paddle boards have features that make them perfect for kids who love to paddle. They're usually shorter than you'd want as an adult and tend to be lightweight, so they're easy for kids to handle. Children's SUPs are available in off-road and racing versions.
If your child wants a versatile SUP board, choose a board that is 8 to 10 feet long, no more than 4.75 inches thick, and no more than 31 inches wide. This will give your child a super shaped board that is very stable and a lot of fun. Try not to buy anything six inches thick. The 6-inch-thick SUP board tends to be too big for even most adults and too wobbly for kids who want to paddle across flat water or catch a wave. Kids Paddle Board If your kids are adventurous and love to paddle alongside you on longer adventures, an 11-foot touring board is a great choice. Also keep the width around 30 and make sure the board is no more than 4.75 thick to give them stability while enjoying their paddling adventure.
Most of us are very lucky to catch a wave on an all-terrain SUP board. SUP boards from 10' to 10'6 x 4'75 thick love to catch small waves, especially for beginners who have a lot of fun on the beach. If you are a smaller, lighter rider, look at boards that are about 11ft x 30 x 4'75" thick. For everyone else, a 12'6 x 31"/32" touring board will do the trick. If you are planning to have a real paddling adventure, take a look at paddle boards larger than 13'2". This longer format is a must for storing camping and picnic gear and when you're on the water for days. Even with these longer boards, if your budget isn't too big for Red Paddle Co, Naish, Starboard Double Chamber or Fanatic Premium, look for high density, premium quality seam boards, Gladiator is a good brand, as is Anomy. and Naish One Race Design on the 12'6 touring boards.
If you become very interested in racing on a paddle board you will want to compete in the N1SCO events and therefore you will need a Naish One Race board, or you may want to compete in the Red Paddle Co Dragon Races or the Naish One Race 14' or 12'6 SUP. Board length and width are key in these events and you need to balance your need for stability with your will to win to find the perfect racing board for you.
